NOON MEETING—THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2012

TVA ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTER, RESERVATION RD, MUSCLE SHOALS, AL

The Muscle Shoals chapter of the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers (ASPE) will host a lunch meeting at noon Thursday February 16.  We will meet in the Board Conference Room of TVA’s Environmental Research Center at Complex E on the Muscle Shoals TVA Reservation (call/e-mail Don Lokey [below] if directions are needed).  TVA facilities are secured, but those not employed by TVA may ring the doorbell at the building’s North-side entrance (near the Board Room) to gain entry.

We will watch a video in the History Channel “Engineering Disasters” series, “New Orleans: Hurricane Katrina.”  This video explores engineering failures in the levees and pumping stations that contributed to the flooding of New Orleans in 2005.  The viewing is intended to provide one professional development hour (PDH) credit, as each engineer deems appropriate.  No registration fee will be charged for this meeting.  All chapter members and any interested engineers are welcome to attend.

The chapter will arrange for “Subway” party platters ($4 charge per person sharing in the platter), and soft drinks will be provided.  The meeting room is reserved at 11:30 a.m. for those who wish to arrive early, and we will start the video at noon.  If you plan to attend, a call (256-386-2035) or e-mail (jdlokey@tva.gov) to Don Lokey by 9 a.m. Thursday 2-16-12 would be appreciated.

We currently have five schools registered in our chapter’s 29th annual MathCounts contest for middle-school students.  This event, our chapter’s primary Engineers Week activity, will be held Saturday 2-25-12 on the UNA campus.  Please mark this date on your calendar; volunteers to help proctor and grade the contest will be greatly appreciated.  Anyone interested in helping should call/e-mail Don Lokey.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

Denzil Sockwell, Chapter President
